Treatment Plant Installations

A sewage treatment plant is usually required as a replacement for a failing septic tank. Old septic tanks are often no longer viable, and with changes to legislation and eco-friendly regulation. The most environmentally friendly option when running an off-mains drainage system is to install a sewage treatment plant. If you’re not sure if you need a sewage treatment plant or if you have a STP that needs to be serviced or upgraded please get in touch for a free quotation and advice.

What is a Sewage Treatment Plant?

A sewage treatment plant is a system that processes the waste from a property, this is processed by the system, commonly by aerobic digestion which results in the separation and treatment of solids and liquids. What comes out of the plant is essentially water, the quality will depend on your system. The water is then safely discharged to a nearby watercourse, ditch, or underground soakaway. A soakaway simply collects and disperses the water which is then absorbed into the ground.

What is a Septic Tank?

Unlike a sewage treatment plant, Septic tanks are far simpler systems, they have no capability to treat waste, and the effluent discharged is not safe for the environment. Under the new 2020 Septic Tank Regulations, you will no longer be able to discharge to a ditch or watercourse from a septic tank. If you have an existing Septic Tank it will likely affect your ability to sell your house. If you need some advice about your old septic tank and how to replace it with a new sewage treatment plant please contact us.

What type of Sewage Treatment Plant will I need?

Gar Construction are approved Sewage Treatment Plant installers for WTE and the two most common installs we undertake are for their Vortex and Apex systems. Please see the sections below outlining some of the features for each water treatment system.
The type of sewage treatment plant you need for your property will depend on a number of variables and conditions. The first and main consideration is the size of the property and how many persons will be living or using the facilities. This will determine how much effluent needs treating. It’s important to choose the correct size of Sewage Treatment Plant for your property, using a smaller system than you need can lead to extra costs from a failing system in the future.
